Beam Remote privacy policy
Effective 2026-10-30.
Beam Remote is an iPhone app that controls LG webOS projectors and TVs over your home Wi-Fi. It is made by Gavin Aiken, an individual developer.
What the app collects
Nothing. Beam Remote has no account, no server and no analytics. It does not send any data to us or to anyone else. It talks only to the device you control, on your own network.
What the app stores on your phone
- The devices you have paired with: their name, model, IP address and Wi-Fi hardware (MAC) address, so the app can find them again and wake them.
- A pairing key for each device, issued by the device when you accept the pairing on its screen. It is stored in the iPhone Keychain (on this phone only, not in iCloud) and is sent only to that device, so it can recognise your phone. Devices paired from 2026-10-31 on are controlled over an encrypted connection; older LG firmware that only offers the unencrypted port still works.
- Your App Shortcut choices and a cache of the device’s app list and icons, so the Remote draws quickly.
All of this stays on your phone. If you use Settings → Saved Devices → Forget, the device, its key and its cache are deleted.
Permissions
Local Network: the app needs this to find your device and to send it commands. Nothing is read from other devices on your network beyond checking whether they are LG webOS devices.
Third parties
None. The app contains no third-party code, SDKs or trackers.
Children
The app is rated 4+ and collects no data from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at the same address with a new effective date.
